About the Event

Please join us for a unique opportunity to gain insights into the exhibition process at MAG. We will be hosting presentations by three members of our esteemed staff who will provide valuable information about their involvement in the process.

Jessica Marten, our Curator in Charge/Curator of American Art, will discuss the selection and determination of special exhibitions. Margot Muto, our Director of Exhibitions, will shed light on the design process specific to the space at MAG. Additionally, Allison Shultes, our Director of Learning/Academic & Community Programs, will explain how the community is informed about our visiting exhibitions.

We are excited to announce that Sarah Jesse, the new Director of MAG, will be making a cameo appearance. This provides a great chance for us to get acquainted with each other.

About the Speakers

Jessica Marten is Curator in Charge/Curator of American Art at MAG where she has worked since 2001. In her curatorial practice, Marten is particularly interested in exploring historically marginalized artists and lesser-known histories.

Margot Muto, Director of Exhibitions came to MAG in 2016. She was previously co-founder and director of AXOM Gallery & Exhibition Space, which opened in 2011 with the mission of presenting contemporary arts and design, and fostering the careers of emerging, mid-career and established artists.

Allison Shultes, Director of Learning/Academic & Community Programs joined the Creative Workshop administrative team in 2022. In her role as Director, Allison works with the team to develop and implement strategies that produce high quality curriculum, classes and camp experiences. She is passionate about creating programs that serve diverse audiences and celebrate the greater Rochester community.
