About the Program
“There is hope. We don’t have to live these lives of rage, depression, illness and isolation.” Join documentary film director Amy L. Erickson for a special film screening and witness the healing power of art. Visceral: Transforming Trauma through Theatre tells the stories of four people who are living with the impact of post-traumatic stress (PTS). By performing in musicals, dramatic theatre, and Shakespeare productions, they recapture their vital life force and begin healing by getting the support they need through connections to others on and off stage.
After the screening, we will explore similar themes by engaging in a close-looking experience with an artwork in MAG’s collection, followed by a therapy demonstration and activity led by Erickson and theatre practitioner Nancy Smith-Watson of Feast of Crispian, a non-profit organization that helps veterans be heard and seen in the expression of their thoughts and feelings and ultimately reconnect with their sense of self-worth and their communities.
This program is free and includes museum admission.
