Join us for a look spanning two centuries (16th & 17th) of women who, through relatively recent scholarship, have emerged from the shadows as professional, prolific, and influential artists during the Renaissance. Joining the ranks of recognized male artists of the period, we will examine their stories and subjects that stand as evidence of their agency, identity, and visual legacies. Artists discussed include: Lavinia Fontana, Elisabetta Sirani, Artemisia Gentileschi, Sofonisba Anguissola and Judith Leyster.
