This course explores drawing and painting through the versatile medium of ink! We will master the mechanics of ink and metal nib work with the correct materials, angles, pressures, speed, and fluidity of line, addressing drawing - form, value tone & texture - using contour, cross-hatching, stippling and line variation used in Renaissance art up through contemporary ink masters. Ink sessions will include reed, bamboo, and alternative mark-making tools, fluid ink brush painting, a method for setting up a five-tone ink wash palette, ink wash painting from observation, ink layering with negative space, drawing from the gallery and nature, ink & wash drawings after the old masters, watercolor/ink compatible techniques, and creative direction in a supportive environment!
