About the Event

Start your art journey with this fun DeTOUR℠! Explore Under the Microscope: Rembrandt’s Portrait of a Young Man in an Armchair through a unique lens—with a sketchbook and pencil in hand!

We’ll start by brushing up on our drawing basics (sketchbooks provided), through a series of exercises, guided by Creative Workshop teacher Lizz deSimone (printmaker, baker, and maker @lizzwith2zs).

Next, Nancy Norwood, MAG Curator of Under the Microscope, will share more about the emerging research on Rembrandt’s own technique, materials and skills in capturing the character of portrait sitters. Finally, explore the rest of the galleries with your new-found sketching skills. You’ll leave with new skills and confidence to draw what you see!
